Ab Ende Januar 1945 erreichte dann der Landkrieg (vorher schon der Bombenkrieg Stettin, Anklam, Stralsund, Peenemünde und Sassnitz) auch pommersches Gebiet. Zunächst jenes Gebiet, das erst 1938 durch Franz Schwede in Pommern als Grenzmark Posen-Westpreußen (Hauptstadt Schneidemühl) eingegliedert wurde. Der mit großem propagandistischen Aufwand errichtete Pommernwall erwies sich als völlig bedeutungslos.
