Bei einem Luftangriff im August 1944 wurde die wichtige Auskunftsstelle des Vereins total zerstört, uneretzbares Material für die Familienforschung ging verloren. Schließlich nahm der Zweite Weltkrieg den ehemaligen Salzburgern in Ostpreußen ein zweites Mal ihre Heimat.
Nachdem die Salzburger Landesregierung beschlossen hatte, eine entsprechende Patenschaft zu übernehmen, wurde in der Nachkriegszeit die Wiederbegründung des Vereins in die Wege geleitet. Sie wurde in einem Festakt am 15. Mai 1954 verkündet. Am folgenden Tag wurde der „Salzburger Verein e.V.“ in Bielefeld neu gegründet. Ab Ostern 1963 lebte das Mitteilungsblatt „Der Salzburger“ wieder auf und erscheint seitdem vierteljährlich. Im darauffolgenden Jahr begann die Gründung von Landesgruppen. Es finden regelmäßige Jahrestreffen statt und alle zwei Jahre trifft mansich im Salzburger Land. Die kleine Wiedervereinigung von 1990 hat dann auch die Einbeziehung der Salzburger Emigrants from 1731/32 in central Germany enables.

Der „Salzburger Verein e.V.“ präsentiert sich heute in mehreren Museen, so im Schloss Goldegg, im Deutschordensschloss Ellingen, im Preußenmuseum Minden und im Ostpreußischen Landesmuseum in Lüneburg. Gute und freundschaftliche Kontakte hält der Verein mit dem Land Salzburg sowie den Schwestervereinen im US-Bundesstaat Georgia und den Niederlanden, the Georgia salt-burger Society and the Foundation "Salzburger emigrants Nederland.
